Initial Visit / Forms

What can I expect at my first visit?

images-3

Expect gentle, insightful listening: over the course of an hour (or more), your acupuncturist will conduct a detailed confidential health history interview to best evaluate your condition within the framework of Chinese traditional medicine. This will include questions and observations about various aspects of your physical and emotional condition, diet, exercise, and lifestyle. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this health history interview will usually occur via telemedicine consultation, for the greatest safety and ease of conversation.

What constitutes a treatment plan?

After making an assessment, your acupuncturist will recommend a personalized course of treatment, which may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal therapy, dietary changes, exercises, and/or lifestyle changes. Prognosis and outcome indicators will be discussed, and your questions will be answered thoroughly.

How should I prepare for an acupuncture treatment?

*   Schedule your appointment such that you don’t need to rush out immediately after the treatment. For some people, it can take 5-10 minutes to feel alert after acupuncture.
*   Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that easily allows access to forearms, lower legs, and abdomen.
*   Eat a light meal beforehand, avoiding any intoxicants and stimulants (alcohol, drugs, coffee, soda, cigarettes).
*   Bring any updated medical information, including test results, medication changes, and basal body temperature/menstrual charting.
